"Who is therefore the trusted and prudent servant ..." (Matthew 24: 42-51)
Biblical reflections by Mauro Leonardi*, priest and writer
To welcome the kingdom of God, an attitude of waiting and hope is necessary: it is not about fear, but of love. It is the heart of those who act well and with always new fervor, because he wants to keep the treasure of his life, not because he is the victim of fear or habit.
From the Gospel according to Matthew 24: 42-51
At that time, Jesus told his disciples:
«Watch, because you don't know in which day your Lord will come. Try to understand this: if the landlord knew what time of the night the thief comes, he would watch and would not let the house break. So you too keep ready because, in the hour you don't imagine, the son of man comes.
So who is the trusted and prudent servant, that the owner has put at the head of his servants to give them the food in debt? Blessed is that servant that the master, coming, will find to act like this! I really tell you: he will put him at the head of all his assets.
But if that evil servant said in his heart: "My late master", and began to beat his companions and to eat and drink with the drunks, the owner of that servant will come a day when he does not expect it and an hour he does not know, he will punish him severely and will inflict him the fate that the hypocriticals deserve: there will be crying and screeching of teeth ".
