Who are you, who am I? A path of rebirth for Christian parents with transgender children
Testimony of Elena di New Lives, network of christian families with sons and daughters in transition
Being with a pre -adolescent daughter showing an ever growing discomfort with her body and others, all weighed down by the closures due to Covid. Do not understand, not to know how to help you, do not find the actually useful specialist supports. And then the coming out"mom I feel like a boy, I would like to be a boy“. A bomb that explodes but also a ray of light that pierces the darkness. Feeling displaced and unprepared, start looking for information and face heavy signs of suffering, which you cannot manage.
"Who are you son, who am i parent?“. I don't recognize you anymore, even if you are always the same as before…. And I have a thousand questions about how I have to behave as a parent.
In the effort and in the search for help, perceive that spiritual attachment is the only light that can give us a foothold of hope and peace.
"Who are you parent, Who am i parent?“, being able to understand and understand each other better by reflecting and finding ourselves in the eyes and stories of other parents, eager to share their experiences and emotions, to question their certainties and to set out on a journey.
Progressively understand that to read our stories, or rather "make ourselves read" inside, the only reference is the Word, the good news of Jesus, which shows us the path of love and openness. Timidly begin the first meetings of reading the Word and sharing, accompanied by pastoral workers.
"Who are You Jesus, who am i?“, get to the most important question and understand that YOU are love, a merciful Father who created and wanted us as we are. “Each of us is the fruit of a thought of God: each of us is wanted, each of us is loved, each of us is necessary” (Benedict XVI).
And I am a beloved daughter, perfect in her fragility and imperfections: we are not super parents but simply parents on the journey together with our children, who are in search of themselves but who help us to discover ourselves and discover our vocation.
"Who are you childrenə, who am i parent?“, you children are a gift, you are unique, you are beauty. I am simply a parent, with the help of Jesus I want to love you, accompany you and change together with you, arrive at a new life, because "Each of us is already and not yet": we already live the salvation given to us by the resurrection of Jesus (already) but we are still waiting for a fulfillment (not yet). Our children are already what they are, but not yet completely; like everyone, I am on a journey.
Consolidate all this richness in the New Lives group, Christian families of transgender girls, which aims to share, in a climate of non-judgmental listening and respect, life experiences in accompanying their children's journey.
New Lives is a point of arrival and a starting point, a safe haven where we parents can rediscover our true dimension and find answers by changing the question, no longer asking ourselves "why" (why did this situation happen to our children and us) but rather “for whom”….
During the monthly online meetings the Word of God sheds light on our hearts, furthermore testimonies and informative meetings help us to understand better and to open ourselves to listening and understanding. What we travel together with friends and pastoral workers is intended to be a path of rebirth as parents
