on May 17, 2025 in Rome we will watch in the parish to overcome the violence of homotransphobia

On May 17, 2025, in the quiet of the parish of Santa Margherita Maria Alacoque, something will happen. Not an event among many, but a gesture of soul, a small fire lit against the frost of indifference. It will be the prayer vigil for overcoming OmotransBibobia, a shared time promoted by Mosaiko Cristiani LGBT+ Rome, Sergio & Bacco and Caritas of Rome. And it will be much more than a meeting: it will be a part of the party, that of love that includes, that is not afraid, that it does not turn its gaze.
This vigil will also have an ecumenical character, because the exclusion wound crosses every border and the hope of the Gospel can only be kept together. To unite at this moment will be not only Catholic realities, but also expressions of other Christian traditions, in the spirit of communion and mutual recognition. The initiative will take place in tune with the diocese of Rome, as a concrete sign of a path that opens, of a church that wishes to be closer to all people, especially those who have remained on the margins for too long.
Watching means first of all stopping. Suspend the race, turn off the noise and listen. Listen to those who are not too often listened to. Queer lives, transgender people, stories broken by violence, refusal, invisibility. Watching is offering a space where all this can be nominated, welcomed, loved. It is to say: you exist, and your existence is sacred. It is to remember, with every pronounced word, that in the eyes of God no one is forgotten.
The structure of the evening will be simple, but full of meaning. There will be a first part dedicated to reflection and prayer, animated by readings, shared words and eloquent silences. Once to let yourself be touched, to open the heart and perhaps even a more lively and fair faith. Immediately after, there will be a convivial moment: a real, human, true meeting time. Sitting together, accompanied by music, the distances will live. Because when we talk calmly, looking in the eyes, bridges are built.
And it will be the music that flows throughout the evening as a spiritual lymph between a testimony and a meditation. Not only accompaniment, but voice of the soul I pray, which he asks, who loves. Music will be an invocation that goes up, emotion that vibrates, breath that is singing. To give life to these moments there will be Valentina, an artist and instrumentalist capable of evoking intimacy and light, and the choir of the hill, with the choral force of the popular tradition. Together, they will not simply play: they will give a bigger language than words.
In the heart of the vigil they will also resonate the words of the acts of the apostles: "God does not make people preferences" (Acts 10,34-35). Words that question us, who call us. Why, if God does not make distinctions, how could we allow ourselves to do it? Worthy, then, is not just a spiritual gesture. It is an act of justice and trust. It is to say that we do not resign ourselves to hatred, which we believe in a church that welcomes and that it is renewed by the encounter with the wounded but bright lives of its time.
To those who read these words: we are waiting for you. Come with your heart open, to share a time of listening, silence and authentic presence. Come to let yourself be touched by voices that perhaps you have never heard, and that speak of life, dignity, hope. Come to find out that another community is possible: a community where you walk together, without exclusions. Each presence will be a small sign of light. And together, like stars on a night in May, we will be able to illuminate the journey towards a more true, more right, bigger love.
