On May 20, 2025 in Florence we will watch with Archbishop Gherardo for the overcoming of the violence of homotransbafobia

A few time has passed since that 2001 evening when three boys met in Florence and, conversing, they discovered they were gay and Christians. One of them, with anger but also with hope, wondered how it was possible that for people with different sexual orientation our Christian communities had no path of faith to offer, a pastoral project to be proposed. Why, therefore, not try to do something, to scratch this reality so monolithic at the time?
From this hope it was bornKairos, the group of Christians LGBT+ and their parents of Florence, with the desire to make lGBT+ people Walk in faith, without having to give up themselves.
In 2007, after the suicide of Matteo, a boy from Turin tired of suffering insults and loneliness, we found ourselves publicly to pray. Nobody asked us to do it. But we couldn't remain silent. At that moment the first vigil was born. A small gesture of memory, pain and faith.
Since then, every year, around May 17, international day against homotransbiot, we collect again to say that every life is worthy, loved, precious in the eyes of God. And to remember that, as the Gospel tells us, "God makes no preferences of people"(Acts 10,34-35).
This year we will find ourselves in prayertuesday 20 may 2025At20:50, in the parish of theBlessed Virgin Maria delle Grazie, in Piazza dell'Isolotto in Florence. We will watch in prayer for the overcoming of the violence of homotransbphobiaWith all the people of good will who want to be there, with the Christians LGBT+ and their parents of the Kairos group of Florence and with the animators of thePastoral of inclusion of the diocese of Florence.
The prayer vigil will be chaired by the Archbishop of Florencemsgr. Gherardo Gambelli. For us, his presence is a gesture that speaks of a church that chooses to get close, who does not escape, who is not afraid to sit next to those who have often been left on the margins. It is a gesture that listens, that welcomes to walk together.
We want to watch to give voice to those who don't have it. To remember LGBT+ injuries, excluded, killed, but also the stories, names and labors of all those who, for any reason, were considered "on the margins"Because foreigners, fragile or forgotten.
We don't know when things will change. But let's feel it is right to be there. That lighting a light, even small, can make the difference. And if you feel that this light concerns you, you are welcome.
We will be there. We are waiting for you. With simplicity. Truthful. With hope.
