Jesus left there on a boat and retired to a deserted place ... (Matthew 14: 13-21)
Biblical reflections by Mauro Leonardi*, priest and writer
When Giovanni disappears, he begins to live in Christ; His being a voice in the desert takes on the face and flesh of the Savior of the world.
From the Gospel according to Matthew 14: 13-21
At that time, having hearing [of the death of John the Baptist], Jesus left there on a boat and retired to a deserted place, aside.
But the crowds, having known him, followed him on foot from the cities. Descended from the boat, he saw a great crowd, he felt compassion for them and healed their sick.
On the evening, the disciples approached him and they said to him: «The place is deserted and is now late; Relands the crowd because it goes to the villages to buy to eat ». But Jesus said to them: "It is not necessary for them to go; yourself give them to eat ». They replied: "Here we have nothing but five loaves and two fish!". And he said, "Bring them here."
And, after ordering the crowd to sit on the grass, he took the five loaves and the two fish, raised his eyes to the sky, recited the blessing, broke the loaves and gave them to the disciples, and the disciples on the crowd.
Everyone ate to satiety, and took away the advanced pieces: twelve full baskets. Those who had eaten were about five thousand men, not to mention women and children.
