"Because everyone is one" (John 17: 20-26)
Biblical reflections by Mauro Leonardi*, priest and writer
As the Spirit descended from heaven to embody himself in the breast of the Virgin Mary, so now the spirit must go down on the disciples so that they can preach to all peoples the forgiveness of sins. Just as Maria was the expectation of salvation, so the disciples must retrace the steps of Mary and wait for the fullness of the times.
From the Gospel according to John 17: 20-26
At that time, Jesus, get his eyes to the sky, so prayed: «I don't pray only for these, but also for those who will believe in me for their word; Because everyone is one. Like you, father, you are in me and I in you, they are also one thing in us, because the world believe that you sent me. And the glory that you gave to me, I gave it to them, so that they are like us one thing. I in them and you in me, so that they are perfect in the unit and the world know that you sent me and loved them as you loved me. Father, I want that even those you gave me are with me where I am, because they contemplate my glory, the one you gave me; since you loved me before the creation of the world. Father right, the world did not know you, but I met you; These know that you sent me. And I made them know your name and I will make it known, because the love with which you loved me is in them and I in them ».
