Il poliamore spiegato alle madri e alle nonne
Reflections by Alessandro Previti
Explaining family polyamory is an experience that requires sensitivity and authenticity.
The short film by the late director Roberto Pérez Toledo tackles this theme with grace, telling a story of love and courage. It shows how a family can embrace a new form without losing the warmth and solidity that makes it home.
A phone call interrupts the peaceful sleep of three lovers. On the other end of the phone, the mother of one of them asks her son who his partner is.
From this simple idea, a dialogue is born between the boy and his companions, made up of sweetness, anxieties and reflections. In the end, the young man makes a decision, and the way he explains his reality allows the viewer to grasp the network of affections and responsibilities that sustains a polyfamily.
For many multifamilies, telling their loved ones about themselves is an important step, a moment of sincere respect and seeking to be listened to. It's not always easy, but it becomes necessary when your family life is made of love, care and stability.
On the other hand, speaking of multifamily we are not talking about a revolution or provocation or erotic games or ways of living that turn their backs on the experiences of others, but about families, slightly different and with the same values.
It's about living your daily life openly, even in the most common gestures. A Christmas dinner, for example, can become the place where you introduce your loved ones to your parents or grandparents. Not to amaze, but to share.
Roberto Pérez Toledo sweetly and ironically portrays a moment of coming out which is not only a challenge, but also a gesture of love towards oneself and one's family.
I believe that dialogue and mutual understanding are essential tools to build a world where polyfamilies can find their space, as an integral part of society.
