“If you are the Christ, tell us openly” (John 10:22-30)
Biblical reflections by Mauro Leonardi*, priest and writer
The sheep know Jesus, because they are given by the Father as Christ is the gift of eternal life. In the winter of the waiting of the heart of man, there is the fruitful waiting of Mary who gives us Jesus, one with the Father.
From the Gospel according to John 10:22-30
In those days, the feast of the Dedication occurred in Jerusalem. It was winter. Jesus walked in the temple, in Solomon's porch. Then the Jews gathered around him and said to him: «How long will you keep us in uncertainty? If you are the Christ, tell us openly."
Jesus answered them, “I told you, and you do not believe; the works that I do in the name of my Father, these bear witness to me. But you do not believe because you are not part of my sheep. My sheep hear my voice and I know them and they follow me. I give them eternal life and they will not be lost forever and no one will snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who gave them to me, is greater than all and no one can snatch them from the Father's hand. I and the Father are one."
