May/June 2026. The cities where we will keep vigil to overcome homotransbiphobia
Nineteen years have passed. It was the spring of 2007 in Florence. In those days many people felt the need to come together to call for an end to the violence and discrimination experienced by LGBTQ+ people in society and, unfortunately, also in our Christian communities. From there a simple question was born: what can we do, as believers? The answer was one ecumenical prayer vigil in the waldensian evangelical church in Florence, made of silence, testimonies and listening.
Today, in many cities, evangelical and Catholic communities together with groups of LGBTQ+ Christians and their parents promote sunday vigils and services to overcome homotransbiphobia. A journey that has gone beyond the Italian borders to also arrive in Belgium, Ireland, Peru, Poland, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland
In the month of May 2026, the vigils and cults will be united by the verse: «Fear not, for I have redeemed you, I have called you by name» (Isaiah 43.1). A word that speaks to those who know fear... and do not deny it. “Do not fear” is a promise that opens within fragility. “I called you by name” returns something essential: identity, dignity, recognition. Not an indistinct crowd, but people seen one by one.

How to look at the reality of LGBT+ Christians?” created with the contribution ofEight per thousand of the Waldensian Church and with the support of the Faith, Gender and Sexuality Commission (Fe.Ge.Se.) of the Baptist, Methodist and Waldensian church and the Global Network of Rainbow Catholics (GNRC).

The vigils and Sunday services to overcome homotransbiphobia still today they remain an essential gesture to remember and give voice to what often remains hidden... and try, together, not to leave anyone alone.
