"Where I go, you cannot come" (John 8: 21-30)
Biblical reflections by Mauro Leonardi*, priest and writer
We recognize God for his humility, because he does not rise alone, but is raised and then donated himself. And it is not raised by angels or by the father, but by human hands that hang it to a cross, an instrument of our salvation. Like the paralytic that is dropped by a roof, Jesus is dropped from the cross to then become glorious body and bring humanity to heaven pierced and redeemed.
From the Gospel according to John 8: 21-30
At that time, Jesus said to the Pharisees: «I go and you will look for me, but you will die in your sin. Where I go, you cannot come ». The Jews then said: "Do you want to kill each other, since he says:" Where I'm going, you can't come "?"
And he said to them: «You are here, I am of up there; You are from this world, I am not in this world. I told you you will die in your sins; In fact, if you don't believe that I am, you will die in your sins ».
They then told him: "You, who are you?" Jesus said to them: «Just what I say to you. I have many things to say about you, and to judge; But the one who sent me is truthful, and the things I heard from him, I tell them to the world ». They did not understand that he spoke to them about the Father.
Jesus then said: "When you have raised the Son of man, then you will know that I am and that I do nothing from myself, but I speak as the father taught me. He who sent me is with me: he didn't leave me alone, because I always do the things that are welcome to him ». To these words, many believe in him.
