Your Excellency, why does Pride scare you so much?

Cammini di Speranza, a national association of Christian LGBT people, expresses amazement at the words of the Archbishop of Turin, HE Mons. Cesare Nosiglia, in the letter to La Stampa of 16 July, and for the criticisms of His Excellency. Card. Severino Poletto to Mayor Chiara Appendino for her participation in Pride.
“The life and marital journey of many homosexual people – spokesperson Andrea Rubera tells us – demonstrates how the structuring and essential element of the family is love, regardless of the sexual orientation of the people who form it.
The recent legislative recognition of civil unions represents a first step towards overcoming unjust and anachronistic discrimination and does not represent a threat to the heterosexual family but rather contributes to affirming the equal beauty and dignity of homosexual love.
Affection, dedication, the concrete and socially considered possibility of building a stable relationship as a couple has been denied to gay and lesbian people for too long: law 76/2016 contributes to overcoming this situation and does not aim to equalize but above all to socially recognize same-sex couples.
Furthermore, the participation of national and local politicians in demonstrations in support of the LGBTI world constitutes a realization of the duty to represent the pluralism of the communities they administer without creating differentiations, therefore following the constitutional dictate.
Pope Francis inaugurated an inclusive season by courageously speaking about the need not to judge gays and to apologize for the Church's offenses against them.”
In light of this extraordinary message, Cammini di Speranza strongly hopes for a calm and constructive discussion in order to overcome, at all levels, doctrinal and ideological rigidities that belong to the past.
