The story of the disciples of Emmaus is the story of all of us. The center of history is the heart that allows us to see Christ in those who speak to us of God, in a man who remains in the evening and breaks the bread for us.
From the Gospel according to Luke 24: 13-35
And here, on that same day, [the first of the week], two [of the disciples] were on the way to a village named èmmaus, about eleven kilometers away from Jerusalem, and conversed together with everything that had happened.
As they conversed and discussed together, Jesus himself approached and walked with them. But their eyes were prevented to recognize it. And he said to them, "What are these speeches you are doing among you along the way?". They stopped, with the sad face; One of them, named Clèopa, replied: «Only you are a foreigner in Jerusalem! Don't you know what happened to you in these days? ». He asked them: "What?" They replied: «What concerns Jesus, the Nazarene, who was a powerful prophet in works and in words, before God and all the people; Like the heads of the priests and our authorities they delivered him to make him condemn to death and crucified him. We hoped that he was the one who would freed Israel; With all this, three days have passed since these things happened. But some women, of ours, have upset us; They went to the tomb in the morning and, not having found his body, they came to tell us they had also had a vision of angels, who claim that he is alive. Some of ours went to the tomb and found as women said, but they didn't see it ».
He said to them, "Fuck and lenses of heart to believe in everything that the prophets have said! Wasn't Christ suffered these suffering to enter his glory? ». And, starting from Moses and all the prophets, he explained to them in all the scriptures what he referred to him.
When they were close to the village where they were directed, he did as if he should go further. But they insisted: "He stays with us, because he is evening and the day is now at sunset". He entered to stay with them. When he was at the table with them, he took the bread, recited the blessing, broke it and gave it to them. Then their eyes opened and they recognized it. But he disappeared from their sight. And they said to each other: "He was perhaps not burning our hearts as he conversed with us along the way, when he explained the scriptures?".
They left without delay and returned to Jerusalem, where the eleven and the others who were with them, who said: "The Lord really risen and appeared to Simone!" And they told what had happened along the way and how they recognized it in breaking the bread.
