"He filled with the hungry assets, postponed the rich empty-handed ..." (Luke 1: 39-56)
Biblical reflections by Mauro Leonardi*, priest and writer
Pentecost has a dual meaning: if on the one hand it reveals the birth of the Church to the outside, on the other it recalls the intimacy of faith and the announcement, because the spirit does not reveal itself to each independently, but comes from God through Mary, who is Mother; And this mother, from the beginning, made itself an instrument of the spirit revealing the imminence of salvation, who had operated on her cousin Elizabeth in her, confirming the yes to God and all of us.
From the Gospel according to Luke 1:39-56
In those days, Maria got up and went quickly to the mountainous region, in a city of Judas.
Entry into the house of Zaccarìa, he greeted Elisabetta. As soon as Elisabetta had heard the greeting of Mary, the child submitted in his womb.
Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit and exclaimed loudly: «Blessed are you among women and blessed the fruit of your womb! What do I owe that my Lord's mother comes to me? Here, as soon as your greeting came to my ears, the baby jettached with joy in my womb. And blessed the one who believed in the fulfillment of what the Lord said to her ».
Then Mary said:
«My soul magnificent the Lord
and my spirit rejoices in God, my savior,
because he looked at the humility of his servant.
From now on all generations will call me blessed.
Great things did the Almighty for me
And Saint is his name;
from generation to generation his mercy
For those who fear it.
Explained the power of his arm,
He dispersed the superb in the thoughts of their heart;
he overturned the powerful from the thrones,
he raised the humble;
has filled with the hungry assets,
He postponed the rich empty -handed.
He has helped his servant Israel,
remembering his mercy,
As he said to our fathers,
For Abraham and his descent, forever ».
Maria stayed with her for about three months, then returned to her home.
