"Pietà of me, Lord, son of David!" (Matthew 15: 21-28)
Biblical reflections by Mauro Leonardi*, priest and writer
The faith of Canaana is great because it has as its foundation the minimum charity, patient humility, the wise hope of those who have fully entrusted to God.
From the Gospel according to Matthew 15: 21-28
At that time, he left there, Jesus retired to the area of shooting and Sidòne. And here is a Cananèa woman, who came from that region, began to shout: «Pietà of me, Lord, son of David! My daughter is very tormented by a devil ». But he didn't even address a word to her.
Then his disciples approached him and implored him: "Espened it, because he comes to us shouting!". He replied: "I was not sent if not to the lost sheep of the House of Israel."
But that approached and prostrated himself before him, saying: "Lord, help me!". And he replied: "It is not good to take the bread of the children and throw it to the dogs." "It is true, Lord - said the woman -, yet the dogs eat the crumbs that fall from the table of their masters".
Then Jesus replied to her: «Woman, your faith is great! It happens for you as you wish ». And from that moment his daughter was healed.
