The monthly Jesus in October 2024 deals with "Gender. The new heresy? The saying and unknown of a divisive question"By hosting, in thirteen pages, a more voices discussion, edited by Giovanni Ferrò and Paolo rapline, with extremely clear and understandable contributions on the theme of: Antonio Autiero, professing emeritus of moral theology at the University of Munster; Lucia Vantini, decent of fundamental theology or of philosatic anthropology at the San Zeno theological study and the ISSR of Verona; Don Angelo Biscardi, professor of theological diantrropology at Tuscany's ISSR; Sandra Letizia, religion teacher in Palermo.
The curators of the interviews are wondered: "Gender is the new heresy as in the past, Giansenism or modernism have been considered sworn enemies of the official doctrine, today some environments of the Catholic Church seems that the orthodoxy of faithful municipalities, shepherds and theologians are measured on the position taken with respect to the "gender ideology".
But there is a complication not a little because, as the theologian Don Aristide Fumagalli observed, the word gender is "a hairdryer to whom different ways of understanding it are hanging and superimposed".
On the one hand there are those who mean gender studies with gender, interdisciplinary studies (including theology) who deal with how culture interprets and with roles and consequent discrimination related to being men or women; On the other hand, there are those who instead mean an ideology that would like to erase the biological data, which encourages the change of sex of teenagers and which would crave a humanity with indistinct identity. And then, in common speaking, Gender even became, in a completely improper way, synonymous with homosexuality and transsexuality.
Faced with this babel, in the debate of the overall public opinion as well as in the Church, the misunderstandings reign sovereign and it is increasingly difficult to understand. (...)
