They knew well that it was the Lord (John 21: 1-14)
Riflessioni bibliche di Mauro Leonardi*, prete e scrittore
As they had always done during public life, the apostles return to their normal work, that of fishermen. And there, in their daily occupation, they find Christ, who shows that they like their normality, because the only way to follow God is to be in their real life.
Dal Vangelo secondo Giovanni 21:1-14
At that time, Jesus manifested himself again to the disciples on the Tiberìade sea. And he manifested himself like this: Simon Pietro, Tommaso called Dìdimo, Natanaèle of Cana of Galilee, the sons of Zebedèo and two other disciples were together. Simon Pietro said to them: "I go fishing." They said to him: "We come with you too." Then they came out and climbed on the boat; But that night they took nothing.
When he was already the dawn, Jesus stood on the shore, but the disciples had not noticed that he was Jesus. Jesus said to them: "Sons, do you have nothing to eat?". They replied: "No." Then he said to them, "throw the net on the right side of the boat and you will find." They threw it and could no longer pull it up for the large amount of fish. Then that disciple that Jesus loved said to Peter: "He is the Lord!" Simon Pietro, as soon as he heard he was the Lord, squeezed his guise around the hips, because he was undressed, and threw himself into the sea. The other disciples, on the other hand, came with the boat, dragging the net full of fish: they were in fact not far from the ground if not a hundred meters.
As soon as I went down to the ground, they saw a grilled fire with fish above, and bread. Jesus said to them, "Bring some of the fish you have taken now." Then Simon Pietro went up to the boat and drew the net full of one hundred and fifty large fish on the ground. And although they were many, the network did not break. Jesus said to them, "Come and eat." And none of the disciples dared to ask him: "Who are you?", Because they knew well that it was the Lord. Jesus approached, took the bread and gave it to them, and as well as the fish. It was the third time that Jesus manifested himself to the disciples, after rising from the dead.
