"Is it perhaps me, Lord?" (Matthew 26: 14-25)
Biblical reflections by Mauro Leonardi*, priest and writer
Is it perhaps me? Or me? The true disciple of Christ knows he knows himself in Christ more than one can know alone, by himself.
From the Gospel according to Matthew 26: 14-25
At that time, one of the twelve, called Judah Iscariòta, went to the heads of the priests and said: "How much do you want to give me because I deliver it to you?". And those stared at him thirty silver coins. From that moment he was looking for the propitious opportunity to deliver Jesus.
The first day of the Ázzimi, the disciples approached Jesus and said to him: "Where do you want us to prepare for you, why do you can eat Easter?". And he replied: "Go to the city from a such and tell him:" The teacher says: my time is close; I will do Easter with you with my disciples "». The disciples made how Jesus had ordered them, and prepared Easter.
Coming in the evening, he put himself at the table with the twelve. As they ate, he said: "In truth I tell you: one of you will betray me." And they, deeply saddened, each began to ask him: "Am I perhaps, Lord?". And he replied: "He who put his hand on his plate with me, is what he will betray me. The son of man leaves, as he is written about him; But woe to that man from whom the son of man is betrayed! Better for that man if he had never been born! ». Judas, the traitor, said, "Rabbi, is it perhaps me?" He replied: "You said it."
