"There were many widows in Israel at the time of Elìa ..." (Luke 4: 24-30)
Biblical reflections by Mauro Leonardi*, priest and writer
The miracles occurred under the prophets are few, and they are hidden miracles made to widows, foreigners, to distant, to discarded by life and history. So it is Jesus. For this reason he is chased and brought to a eyelash of a ravine, but Jesus passes through them, like the spear that pierces Mary's heart.
From the Gospel according to Luca 4: 24-30
At that time, Jesus began to say in the synagogue to Nàzaret:] "In truth I say to you: no prophet is welcome to his homeland. Indeed, in truth I tell you: there were many widows in Israel at the time of Elìa, when the sky was closed for three years and six months and there was a great famine across the country; But none of them was sent Elìa, if not to a widow in Sarèpta di Sidóne. There were many lepers in Israel at the time of the prophet Elisèo; But none of them was purified, if Naamàn, the Siro ».
When everyone in the synagogue heard these things, they were filled with indignation. They rose up and drove him out of the city and led him to the edge of the mountain, on which their city was built, to throw him down. But he, passing among them, set out.
