What could a man give in exchange for his life? (Marco 8: 34-9: 1)
Biblical reflections by Mauro Leonardi*, priest and writer
Jesus repeats the conditions to recognize him: to donate his life, to love through the cross for resurrection and salvation.
From the Gospel according to Marco 8: 34-9: 1
At that time, convened the crowd with his disciples, Jesus said to them:
«If someone wants to come behind me, deny himself, take his cross and follow me. Because whoever wants to save their lives will lose it; But who will lose his life for my and the Gospel, will save it.
In fact, what advantage is there that a man earns the whole world and lose his life? What could a man give in exchange for his life?
Who will be ashamed of me and my words in front of this adulterous and sinful generation, even the son of man will be ashamed of him, when he comes to the glory of his father with the Holy Angels ».
He said to them: "In truth I tell you: there are some, present here, that they will not die before having seen the kingdom of God in his power".
