They say and do not do (Matthew 23.1-12)
Biblical reflections by Mauro Leonardi*, priest and writer
A justice without love is often a source of abuse. It pushes to work well to appear and not to donate. The logic of the kingdom of heaven is at the antipodes: it is registered in every moment of the life of Christ. He also and above all when he proclaims himself "son of man", he always does it in moments of total donation, of extreme service, of profound humility.

From the Gospel according to Matthew 23.1-12
At that time, Jesus turned to the crowd and his disciples saying: «On the chair of Moses seated the scribes and the Pharisees. What they tell you, do and observe it, but do not do according to their works, because they say and do not. In fact, they bind heavy burdens and impose them on people's shoulders, but they don't want to move them even with a finger. All their works do them to be admired by men: they widen their Filattèri and lengthen the fringes; They love places of honor in the boarding schools, the first seats in the synagogues and greetings in the squares, as also to feel called "rabbì" by people.
But don't call yourself "Rabbi", because only one is your teacher and you are all brothers. And don't call anyone "Father" on earth, because only one is your Father, that of the sky. And don't call you "Masters", because only one is your teacher, the Christ. The greatest of you is your servant; Those who are raised will be lowered and those who drop will be raised.
