"You are from this world, I am not in this world" (John 8: 21-30)
Biblical reflections by Mauro Leonardi*, priest and writer
Jesus is about to return to the Father, to God who is eternal love. To that God who said from the sky: "This is my favorite son: listen to him!". Those who do not welcome this love, those who do not welcome the verb made flesh, cannot come into the love of the father because love can only be donated and not to demand.
From the Gospel according to John 8: 21-30
At that time, Jesus said to the Pharisees: «I go and you will look for me, but you will die in your sin. Where I go, you cannot come ». The Jews then said: "Maybe he will kill himself, since he says: where I go, you can't come?". And he said to them: «You are here, I am of up there; You are from this world, I am not in this world. I told you you will die in your sins; In fact, if you don't believe that I am, you will die in your sins ». They then said to him: "Who are you?" Jesus said to them: «Just what I tell you. I would have many things to say and judge on your account; But the one who sent me is truthful, and I say to the world the things I heard of him ». They did not understand that he spoke to them about the Father. Jesus then said: "When you have raised the Son of man, then you will know that I am and I do nothing from myself, but how the father taught me, so I speak. He who sent me is with me and he didn't leave me alone, because I always do the things that are welcome to him ». To these words, many believe in him.
