“You are the Son of God!” (Mark 3,7-12)
Biblical reflections by Mauro Leonardi*, priest and writer
Pride is vain: empty. Jesus shows us this by retreating into the sea when people seek him only to crush him, throwing themselves on him to touch him, falling at his feet and shouting: You are the son of God: Jesus is the Christ but he does not want to become an idol for us. He is a Person who wants to love and be loved. And love is never violence, assault, intrusiveness, but always caress, tenderness, custody, respect for freedom.
From the Gospel according to Mark 3,7-12
At that time, Jesus withdrew to the sea with his disciples and a large crowd from Galilee followed him. From Judea and Jerusalem and Idumea and Transjordan and around Tire and Sidon, a large crowd, hearing what he was doing, came to him. Then he asked his disciples to make a boat available to him, because of the crowd, so that they would not crush him. In fact he had healed many, so that those who had some ailment threw themselves on him to touch him. The unclean spirits, when they saw him, threw themselves at his feet shouting: "You are the Son of God!". But he scolded them severely so that they would not reveal it.
