"Avvenire" tells the Milan conference on Concilium and "homosexuality"
In the excavation article taken from to come of 6 October 2008
A little bit that came, the newspaper of the Italian Episcopal Conference (CEI), has dedicated a few lines to the Milan conference on "Concilium 1/2008: homosexuality. Contributions of theological research to the debate on homosexuality".
A few lines that amaze, not so much for the words they contain, but only for the fact of being there. A few words relegated almost on the last page, so as not to give too much disturbance, in which it is remembered, and it seems almost a tanks, which on homosexuality is time to "get out of the reductive classifications and take into account the multiple identities of people".
"Only in 1973 did the association of US psychiatrists canceled homosexuality from the list of psychiatric pathologies, and the World Health Organization has eliminated this orientation from the list of diseases only in 1992".
It is the German Catholic Theologian Norman Reck to remember the two dates. Facts that alone testify to how the debate cannot be reduced - unlike how it happens frequently - simply by targeting the point of view of the Church.
Reck's intervention opened a debate yesterday in Milan propitiated by the recent issue, entitled "The homosexuality", of the prestigious Concilium magazine, published in seven languages and which among the founders boasts names that have made the history of theology, such as Karl Rahner, Edward Schillebeeckx, Hans Küng and Yves Congar.
Professor Reck, a secular believer who teaches theology and philosophy at the Catholic University of Monaco (is also editor responsible for the German edition of Concilium), warned against letting himself be infected by the prejudice of 'diversity', which in the case of homosexuals can become - as unfortunately happens in some countries of the world - fierce homophobia.
For this reason, the conference promoted by 'Il Guado', a research group on faith and homosexuality, also Don Domenico Pezzini and the Pastora Valdese Anne Zell invited the churches to have courage and believers "to get out of the reductive classifications and take into account the multiple identities of people". Comparison promoted by the group "Il Guado" after the special released on "Concilium".
