In Rome walking with the LGBT+ Christians of Mosaiko

The Mosaiko group was born in Rome in October 2018 with the aim of building a place of welcome and sharing life paths. The group is open to discussion, to mutual non-judgmental listening and to the acceptance of every expression of humanity, in its entirety and uniqueness. The objective of the group is to live and cultivate human and spiritual growth, including the homo-affective dimension as a richness and possibility of authentic relationship with others.
Each member of Mosaiko, like each piece of a work of art, seeks in their own uniqueness to be an integral part of the plan that God has for each one, and despite having their own lifestyle, they are united by the same dream: to achieve from down here the Kingdom of Heaven, experiencing in everyday life the Gospel that becomes flesh. The group dreams of a Universal Fraternity, without any distinction of sex, age or personal conditions, and wants to contribute to building a Church that is inclusive, that is Mother of all.
In recent years, many episodes have occurred: civil unions, loved ones called by God, professions of vows by a religious person, very delicate health situations, which have made the group increasingly cohesive and involved in each other's daily lives.
For spirituality the group means the innate ability of every human being to search for meaning, in order to develop a responsible attitude towards oneself, towards others, towards the universe and towards God, whatever representation of God one may have. The various sensitivities of the Rainbow Christian Community participate in the group activities: gays, lesbians, bisexuals, people in transition and hetero-solidarity, with the aim of overcoming "ghettoization", the result of fears or ignorance.
By Universal Fraternity we mean participating in the life of others, sharing their fears, needs and joys in the light of the message of God the Father, who loves his children unconditionally. To build all this, the group concretely practices taking care of each other, taking inspiration from Jesus' commandment: “They will recognize you by how you love each other”.
Starting from this request, the group decided to structure its journey in an open and varied way, with both spiritual and socio-cultural encounters. Vigils were organized to overcome homotransphobia, people prayed for peace and celebrated Eucharists in communion with the parish communities hosting the group.
Mosaiko confronted the charisms of some monastic orders, proposed meetings to break down the stigma of HIV, explored the topic of transition in depth, receiving support from professionals in the sector also to improve listening and communication techniques.
The group has opened a dialogue with other Christian spiritual confessions, and also works for interreligious dialogue with Islamic spirituality and Buddhism.
For the new year the group is planning meetings in small groups, in homes, with the aim of developing the theme of care: the host expresses welcome and facilitates the relationship between guests, creating the suitable environment through various themes as: thetake care(of creation, of the weak, of the young, etc.), thedialogue(to overcome conflicts, separations, social, ethnic clashes, etc.) theto sustain(the cause of migrants, women, the unemployed, etc.), theinclusion(diversity of gender and orientation, cultural etc.), theguard(beauty, rights, freedom, etc.), thecommunicate(who we are, how we are, the Gospel, ideals, rights, etc.) and finallyknow(neighbor, places, life stories, etc.).
The group meets mainly in the premises of the parish of Santa Margherita Maria Alacoque, via Michele Pantanella 5 – Tor Vergata area, in the south/eastern quadrant of Rome.
Some priests and consecrated people also participate in the activities, including Don Angel, who received permission from the auxiliary bishop of the diocese of Rome to facilitate the group's activities by making parish spaces available, and on some occasions also the university chapel of San Tommaso and the Our Lady of Suffrage chapel in Torre Maura. The group has created an important network of contacts, who in certain periods of the year take part in the activities by making central and well-connected spaces available to us.
Anyone who wants to participate in the meetings will be welcome, and will be welcomed with open arms!
