Why do we do it? The answer is very simple: because we believe in the Gospel of Christ, in the love of God for all his creatures, without exception. And because the Church that bears its name is called to obey the commandment of love. We are convinced that at the heart of the Gospel there is welcome and forgiveness for all those who confess that they are, for their sin, far and far from God and yet reconciled by Christ, who died of violent humanity, risen to restore hope to lost humanity.
We mention the sin that is the condition of moral imperfection that unites all human beings in the need for healing and forgiveness, but we do not mention it because we consider the sins of someone more sinful than others, nor why we believe that homosexuality or gender dysphoria are sins. Too bad it is more. It is verbal, physical and psychological violence. Too bad is the sense of superiority by class, gender belonging, culture, ethnicity or color.
Too bad is religious hypocrisy. Too bad it is the claim to be always right without ever listening to the reasons of the other. Too bad it is to use the Bible as a weapon to hurt and not for what it is, the luminous testimony of the work of God through Jesus Christ, that the Holy Spirit makes the word of life for each and each of us.
So we will pray for the victims of bullying, for those who suffer aggressions and marginalization due to their sexual or gender identity. We will pray for those who fight against all violence.
We will pray for those who work for legislation that bandages the language of hatred. And we will pray for the churches, so that they can all remember that only a true reception testimony will be able to transmit to the world, in a credible way, the message that God loves us all and all as we are. And he wants to give us life and life in abundance.
