Perché nella chiesa mentire sull’omosessualità genera potere

Sebbene uno dei testi più conosciuti del Vangelo reciti “conoscerete la verità e la verità vi farà liberi” (Matteo 8:32), la Storia ci insegna che, più e più volte, la Chiesa ha preferito seguire un altro motto: “imparerete a mentire e mentire vi farà potenti”. Come tutte le istituzioni, la Chiesa si è sentita molte volte minacciata da persone, ideologie o cosmovisioni, e spesso ha risposto in maniera poco evangelica e poco umana. La nostra storia è questa, nasconderla significherebbe negare l’evidenza e impedire la nostra liberazione.
Difficilmente si trovano istituzioni che sanno raccontare la loro versione dei fatti a fini repressivi meglio della Chiesa. Prima di iniziare a umiliare, discriminare, sottomettere, o addirittura uccidere gruppi di persone, la Chiesa sapeva che era necessaria una versione dei fatti che legittimasse la sue barbarie. Gli ebrei, ad esempio, erano gli assassini di Gesù, erano sporchi e maleodoranti, erano criminali avari e maestri dell’inganno. Le donne che si rifiutavano di mettere il loro corpo e la loro capacità riproduttiva al servizio del potere furono additate come streghe, come depravate sessuali in grado di uccidere bambini o dissotterrarli dalla loro tomba per mangiarli ai banchetti delle loro congreghe.
I neri erano i discendenti di Cam, la vergogna di suo padre Noè, ed erano stati puniti con una maledizione divina: erano destinati a vivere come i servi dei loro fratelli (Genesi 9:18-28). Le persone nere non erano intelligenti come il resto degli esseri umani, erano sanguinari, ladri, superstiziosi e immeritevoli di fiducia. Per i protestanti, i dirigenti della Chiesa Cattolica erano i rappresentanti del potere dell’Anticristo e della Meretrice di Babilonia di cui si parla nel libro dell’Apocalisse. I loro seguaci erano persone incolte, idolatre e superstiziose. Per i cattolici, invece, i protestanti erano eretici, strumenti diabolici contro la Chiesa, bugiardi, comunisti e massoni.
Mi sembra ovvio che la Chiesa dovrebbe essere la paladina della lotta per la giustizia e della restituzione della dignità a coloro che sono oppressi nel nome dell’eteronormatività, del binarismo di genere e del patriarcato, ma in molte religioni questi tre concetti sono stati destrutturati a tal punto da venire confusi col Vangelo stesso, rendendo così impossibile estirparle dal loro grembo per paura di perdere la propria essenza.
Voglio fare un inciso per sottolineare quanto sia perverso un cristianesimo che pensa che questi tre concetti siano parte essenziale del Vangelo, e che è disposto a sacrificare la vita di tanta gente per difendere quest’idea. Davanti a questa visione così lontana dal Vangelo di Gesù, la Chiesa vede le persone LGBTQI, i gruppi che le appoggiano e i poteri politici che fanno leggi a favore di tutta la popolazione, persone LGBTQI incluse, come una minaccia.
Come ha sempre fatto davanti a una presunta minaccia, la Chiesa ha deciso di passare al contrattacco. Il classico approccio silenzioso, che non fa nomi ed espelle chi è emarginato, non è più sufficiente per sottomettere e umiliare le persone LGBTQI in Occidente. Per riuscire a farlo, la Chiesa sa che deve inventarsi una versione dei fatti che renda queste persone un pericolo pubblico, soprattutto per Lei stessa (che diventerebbe il bersaglio principale delle persone LGBTQI).
Analizzando i titoli di alcune pagine cristiane conservatrici, possiamo osservare la costruzione di quella versione: Possiamo evitare l’incontro mondiale delle famiglie delle lobby gay? (infoCatólica), Lo Stato si sta sottomettendo alla teoria del gender (Protestante Digital), Gli esperti mettono in guardia: i mezzi di comunicazione stimolano la transessualità nei bambini (Bibliatodo Noticias), Cristiano rischia condanna a 2 anni di prigione per aver detto che l’omosessualità è un peccato (Noticia Cristiana), Nota attivista LGBT cambia stile di vita e si arrende a Gesù (Mundo Cristiano), Panettieri condannati per essersi rifiutati di preparare un dolce pro-omosessualità (La Gaceta Cristiana), FEREDE [Federación de Entidades Religiosas Evangélicas de España, Federazione delle Associazioni Religiose Evangeliche Spagnole] reitera la sua preoccupazione e la sua posizione critica nei confronti delle leggi antidiscriminazione “solo per i gay” dopo l’approvazione della legge andalusa (Actualidad Evangélica), Un pediatra predice “un’ondata di suicidi” dato l’attacco trans ai bambini (Religión en Libertad)…
Non è importante che le persecuzioni contro il cristianesimo da parte della presunta lobby LGBTQI non esistano, ciò che importa è far credere che ci siano e che quella versione dei fatti sia credibile, così da poter mantenere il potere e l’influenza in ogni angolo della società e sulla vita privata del maggior numero di persone possibile.
Non credo che il cristianesimo sia chiamato a esercitare il potere, ma piuttosto a liberar(si). Per questo dovrebbe sostituire le bugie con la verità. Non mi riferisco a una verità assoluta, lungi da me, ma a una conoscenza della realtà con cui si scontrano le persone LGBTQI, anche quelle che sono cristiane, prima di creare un ambiente ostile.
Invece di fare orecchie da mercante di fronte alle critiche di molte persone verso le brutte esperienze vissute in Chiesa a causa dei discorsi omofobi e transfobici che lì si fanno, sarebbe bene che la Chiesa si sedesse a dialogare e si lasciasse interpellare dalle loro parole. E, perché no, potrebbe anche ammettere gli eventuali malintesi. L’unico motivo per cui non lo fa è la coscienza del fatto che i suoi discorsi non riguardano la vita e la realtà, ma il potere e l’incapacità di rivedere la propria fede e renderla liberatoria (quale Gesù segue questo cristianesimo).
È incredibile che la Chiesa continui a negare l’umiliazione subita dai cristiani LGBTQI nell’ambiente clericale, e che sia incapace, non dico di sentire empatia, ma almeno di ascoltarli e trattarli come esseri umani, incluse le persone che non fanno più parte della Sua comunità perché sono state maltrattate ed escluse.
Disporre di una educazione che rispetti le diversità e non cerchi di imporre con forza l’eteronormatività, l’approvazione di leggi (che vengano messe in pratica) che condannano chi aggredisce le persone LGBTQI, avere il diritto di formare una famiglia e che questa venga riconosciuta come tale, celebrare i pari diritti e la diversità, fare giustizia a chi ha subito repressioni perché di un genere o sessualità diversi, fare in modo che nessuno debba rinunciare alla sua fede o alla sua comunità perché parte della comunità LGBTQI, fare in modo che le persone trans e le loro famiglie vengano seguite in maniera non invasiva, ma motivante, in maniera tale che abbiano tutte le risorse per raggiungere facilmente i loro obiettivi…
Potrei andare avanti all’infinito con la lista delle necessità e delle lotte delle persone LGBTQI (e di una società – e delle poche Chiese – che hanno preso a cuore le loro battaglie, e le hanno fatte proprie). Facendo questa lista non appare nessuna delle minacce che la retorica cristiana fondamentalista ha messo in piedi per passare come vittima, invece di riconoscere e pentirsi della sua collaborazione e promozione della LGBTQI-fobia.
La Chiesa può continuare a mentire, ma mi sembra offensivo che lo faccia in nome di Dio, e che non ci siano altre voci cristiane che denuncino a pieni polmoni questa versione dei fatti, che non sta in piedi.
Nel Vangelo lo stesso Gesù invoca la verità, e la verità non ha nulla a che vedere con ciò che la Chiesa cerca di imporre. L’unico modo di avvicinarsi alla verità è sedersi a un tavolo, insieme alle persone LGBTQI, e parlare con loro per provare a capire le loro esigenze. Dopo aver fatto questo, si potrà decidere se continuare a seguire la retorica antievangelica del potere, come già è stato fatto molte volte, o andare verso la strada del Vangelo della liberazione.
